Actor Mark Spalding, who appeared in Tomorrow Never Dies, will be visiting a Kent cinema to celebrate 25 years since one of his best-known roles on the big screen.

The film star will be attending a special screening of Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow at the Ashford Cinema and holding a Q&A for fans after the credits roll.

Mark played Jonathan Masbath, a servant who is killed by the Headless Horseman, in the 1999 gothic horror alongside Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci and Christopher Walken.

The film is being shown as part of Silver Screams, a new series of screenings curated by Ashford-based screenwriter Thom Burgess.

The writer, who has recently been announced for a new studio project with Trollhunter director André Øvredal, will be showing classic horror and thriller films at the cinema with a special guest for each event.

Thom, who also goes by T W Burgess for his work, will introduce the film with a talk on the history of famous ghost stories, including Washington Irving’s 1820 short story that inspired Sleepy Hollow, to coincide with the launch of his own book, Early Haunts.

“I’m thrilled to be working with the Ashford Cinema in curating this season of incredible horror films,” says Thom. “Silver Screams will offer a rare opportunity to catch some of the most iconic horror films of all time, whilst offering insights from film industry specialists, all from a wide range of disciplines – and all at just a fraction of the price of a standard cinema ticket.

“As a writer and lifelong horror devotee, my hope is to build a network of film enthusiasts and professionals from across Kent and, in doing so, helping to put the town firmly on the map for film fans and industry opportunities.”
