Planes, boats, cars, tanks and helicopters are getting ready to take over one of Kent’s most historic sites.

But don’t worry, there will be plenty of room for all of them, when hundreds of miniature model machines descend on Headcorn Aerodrome this weekend.

The popular Southern Model Show will return to the former Battle of Britain airfield near Maidstone for two days and will be paying tribute to one of the unsung heroes of the Second World War.

The family show, which starts at 10am on Saturday and Sunday, has an exciting and varied flying event in store and will showcase – in model fashion – the role of the iconic Hurricane plane during the war.

The event will have an amazing range of models on display, catering for everybody from the serious enthusiast to casual spectator.

The show is in association with the Maidstone Model Flying Club but will also feature a full programme of on the ground activities. Spectators can enjoy the sight and sound of remote controlled car racing whilst watching tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles doing their stuff.

There will even be boating displays – albeit in a water tank – where epic sea battles with remote control machines will be recreated.

Food, drink and trade stands as well as other activities for less model-minded members of the family will also be available.

The Southern Model Show at Headcorn Aerodrome takes place on Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, September 14. Tickets cost £12 for adults, £10 for children, or £35 for a family of four. For more information visit www.headcornevents.co.uk or call 0845 6526263.
