Impressionist-turned-pianist Alistair McGowan’s is bringing his new-found talent to the stage in the Piano Show.
The comedian will be putting the jokes to one side - at least for the most part - to perform his favourite classical gems at the Gulbenkian in Canterbury.
The new show follows the success of his 2017 album, the Piano Album, which reached number one in the classical music chart.
Alistair is now set to release his second album, the Piano Album Vol 2, on Tuesday, May 17 - just one day before his Canterbury show.
The comedian, who found fame as an impressionist on the ITV show Spitting Image in the 1990s, has celebrated many career milestones, from his own BAFTA-winning TV show the Big Impression to starring on the West End and being nominated for an Olivier Award.
However, at the age of 49, Alistair shifted his career in a new direction. He returned to the piano, which he played as a child, at the age of 49 and began dabbling in the world of music.
Alistair’s first release as a pianist was the Piano Album, a collection of 17 short pieces by renowned composers such as Satie, Liszt, Field, Chopin and Mompou.
After soaring to the top of the classical charts, Alistair decided to test his new musical chops on the road.
The Piano Show features short classical pieces, all performed live on stage, but the stand-up comic isn’t leaving the laughs behind entirely.
Alongside the music, the Piano Show will include laughs from humorous observations, witty characters and even some of Alistair’s trademark impressions.
Enjoy a night of magnificent music from one of the UK’s most unexpected classical pianists, all topped off with a sprinkling of comedy.
The Piano Show is at the Gulbenkian Arts Centre, Canterbury, on Wednesday, 18 May. Book tickets online here or call 01227 769 075.
