Dover Castle will host this year’s Agria Dog Walk, an annual event raising money for animal charities

An annual charity dog walk is expected to draw crowds of animal enthusiasts to a historic Kent castle.
The Agria Dog Walk, which enters its fourth year this month, has partnered with English Heritage to offer a picturesque setting for the charity walk.
This year, Dover Castle will be one of the sites of the walk, which takes place all over Europe and has previously seen 18,000 dogs being walked to raise money for a number of animal charities.
TV personality and animal rights activist Jodie Kidd has also joined the cause as the official spokesperson for this year’s event.
The former model and racing driver will be attending the walk at Dover Castle.
Visitors can arrive at the English Heritage site in Dover from 10am on Saturday, May 20 with their furry friends and set off on a leisurely walk around the grounds.
There will be a free Dog Walk map available to pick up, which will give visitors a suggested route around the site that they can follow with their four-legged companion.
Agria will also be giving away pet-friendly freebies, and there will be vendors selling dog ice cream and lots of photo opportunities around the castle.
You can also bring your own picnic to enjoy from the top of the White Cliffs with spectacular views over the English Channel.
Pet insurance company Agria will be donating £5 for every dog that takes part in the walk to a selection of charities.
“It’s always so heart-warming to see dog lovers across the country unite to help to make a difference to the lives of animals,” says Vicki Wentworth, CEO of Agria. “We continue to see the cost of living crisis putting rescues under stress, so it’s never been more important to help to care for and rehome animals abandoned due to no fault of their own.
“Last year’s dog walk saw over 800 dogs in the UK, and over 18,000 across Europe, walked to raise funds of over £35,000 - and this year we have set our sights even higher.”
One of the animal charities that will receive donations from the dog walk is Retired Greyhounds Canterbury.
“As a small, independent charity finding loving forever homes for retired greyhounds and greyhounds in need, every single penny is essential in allowing us to continue our work,” says Jackie Lee from Retired Greyhounds Canterbury. “Everyone involved is a volunteer so every penny raised with the support of Agria and English Heritage goes directly to caring for these wonderful greyhounds until they get their forever sofas.”
The dog walk is included with a standard entry ticket, which costs £26 per adult and can be booked online here.
Entry is free for English Heritage members.
You can also make a donation to Retired Greyhounds Canterbury, and other animal charities, on the day.
