Once the summer flowers begin to fade away, gardeners up and down the country will be making a start on their autumn landscapes.

It’s a busy time of year, with thousands of leaves to blow away and a fresh new set of bulbs to blow away - thankfully, head gardener Neil Miller at Hever Castle, in Edenbridge near Sevenoaks, is on hand to help.

This autumn, Neil will be holding weekly workshops, showing budding gardeners how to get the best out of the season. The workshops will focus on creating a delightful container garden and a tour of the garden, with tips on how to tackle the jobs at hand.

It’s all part of the castle’s Autumn Colour season, which sees a number of activities take place in and around the beautiful gardens as they are showered in orange, red and yellow.

The garden team have created an immersive self-guided autumn trail for the season, where visitors can venture through the unique and unusual trees as they change colour.

There will also be a second workshop, towards the end of the month, hosted by gardener Darren Clarke. The Tremendous Trees workshop and trail provides fascinating details on the Japanese Maples and colourful trees in the grounds.

If you’re visiting with the family, your kids will even receive a craft collection bag. They can use these bags to collect fallen leaves from the castle gardens and take home instructions on how to create an autumn sun catching using their leaves.

Autumn in Colour at Hever Castle is open from Saturday, October 1 and the self-guided trail sheet can be downloaded or collected on site from this date.

Individual events, such as workshops, take place on select dates throughout October.
