Comedian Ben Elton returns to the road with four dates in Kent in 2019

00:50, 12 December 2018

More than 30 years ago comic Ben Elton exploded onto the scene hosting Channel 4's groundbreaking Saturday Live.

Then 15 years ago, the writer of The Young Ones and Blackadder and author of 15 novels - six of which were UK No.1 bestsellers - stopped doing stand-up.

Now he's back and planning a 53-date tour, which has four stops in the county next year.

The multi-award winning novelist, playwright, television and screen writer and lyricist, has also written plays including Popcorn and Blast from the Past; musicals We Will Rock You and Love Never Dies and films including Maybe Baby and All Is True with Kenneth Branagh.

On his return to the medium he did so much to define, said: "The last time I toured I was still smarter than my phone. Things have definitely taken a funny turn."

The tour kicks off in Dublin in September 2019 and tickets are now on sale.

His show will be at the Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells on Monday, October 28, 2019 and the Central Theatre in Chatham on Thursday, October 31.

It will then go to the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone on Friday, November 1 and the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury on Wednesday, November 20. To book tickets visit Ticketmaster.co.uk
