Award-winning opera company, English Touring Opera, are bringing two of the most celebrated operas in history together for their latest tour.
The company, which has received numerous accolades for its efforts to make opera accessible and affordable, is presenting Handel's Giulio Cesare and Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims to the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury.
One of the most performed baroque operas in the world, Handel’s Giulio Cesare is a thrilling tale of love, power and revenge.
For this new tour, the acclaimed 2017 staging of the show has been revived by James Conway, featuring period instruments and, for this performance, the Canterbury Cantata.
The revival also boasts stunning vocal performances from Countertenor Francis Gush and Soprano Susanna Hurrell in the lead roles of Caesar and Cleopatra.
On a lighter note, Rossini’s comedy brings huge laughs, cutting satire and larger-than-life characters to the stage.
Il viaggio a Reims was the composer’s last Italian opera and was composed with a large cast of the finest voices of the time in mind.
The English Touring Opera are hoping to wow audiences with its new production of this acclaimed show, directed by Valentina Ceschi and conducted by Jonathan Peter Kenny.
Both shows are sung in Italian with English surtitles.
Tickets to both shows, which take place on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29, can be booked online here or by calling 01227 787787.
There will also be a pre-show talk with a member of the company ahead of each performance. A ticket is required to enter the theatre early, but there is no additional cost to join the talk.
