Canterbury: Dirty Dancing drive-in screening at the Gulbenkian
00:01, 09 May 2017
It's hard to believe, but the movie Dirty Dancing is 30 years old this year.
Back in 1987 Dirty Dancing captured the hearts of cinemagoers the world over as Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey danced their way to movie immortality.
The film features everyone’s favourite hits including She’s Like the Wind, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Be My Baby and the Oscar-winning (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.
Get your friends together and celebrate the Oscar-winning feel-good summer love story on the big screen as a drive-in movie at the Gulbenkian in Canterbury on Saturday, May 27, after being rescheduled from Saturday, May 20.
Teenager “Baby" vacations with her family at Kellerman’s resort in the Catskill Mountains the summer before going to college. Things are a little tame until she meets Johnny, the camp's charismatic dance instructor, who mesmerizes her with his dance moves and ‘bad boy’ image. Over the course of the summer, Baby’s hungry eyes are opened to the responsibilities of adulthood and the prejudices their love brings.
You can watch the film as a drive-in from your car or use one of the deck chairs in the seating area.
Previous drive-in screenings of Ghostbusters and Grease have been popular. The event will be held on the Giles Lane Car Park on the university campus opposite Gulbenkian. It will be screened on an Airscreen and you will be able to tune your car radio to the FM frequency.
There will be a burger bar serving Brogdale beef burgers and halloumi & portobello mushroom burgers along with snacks.
The showing is at 9.15pm, with gates opening at 8pm. There are some limited early bird car tickets at £20, with all other tickets £25 and deck chairs £10.
The film is a 12A. To book go to thegulbenkian.co.uk or call 01227 769075.
