Get ready to move it, move it as a fun-filled family musical comes to town.
Madagascar the Musical, based on the animated DreamWorks film, is currently on tour, starring children’s TV presenter Karim Zeroual.
The show will be coming to the Orchard West Theatre in Dartford for four nights of wild and wacky antics.
This musical adaptation has been co-created by the same team behind the SpongeBob Musical, which recently enjoyed a successful season on the West End.
The touring production stars Karim Zeroual as King Julien, an eccentric ring-tailed lemur who is the ruler of the Kingdom of Madagascar.
“I’m hugely excited and it feels like a real honour,” says Karim. “I’ve not seen the stage show before, although I know and love the films, so it’s quite nice to bring my own twist to the role. There is a sense of responsibility in bringing to life a character that everyone knows so well and loves which is a little bit scary too but I think I’m doing a good job so far!”
Karim, best known for being a CBBC presenter, has also appeared on Celebs Go Dating, Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel and, in 2019, he reached the final of Strictly Come Dancing with partner Amy Dowden.
Before landing the role of King Julien, the 30-year-old TV star has also worked on theatre productions such as the Lion King and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
The story follows Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo who escape from New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on a journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.
Based on the 2005 film starring Ben Stiller, David Schwimmer, Chris Rock and Jada Pinkett Smith, the musical features elaborate costumes and impressive puppetry to help bring the animals to life.
Madagascar the Musical will be at the Orchard West Theatre in Dartford from Thursday, June 6 to Sunday, June 9. You can book tickets online here.
