Kent County Show organisers appoint new chairman

The society which puts on the biggest agricultural event in the county has a new man at its helm.

The Kent County Agricultural Society, which organises the annual Kent County Show, has welcomed James Forknall as its new chairman, after Kevin Attwood finished his six years in the post.

Mr Forknall, whose family has farmed in Kent since 1953, had previously been society vice-chairman, as well as chairman for the Maidstone NFU branch and the Weald of Kent Ploughing Match.

He is joined by Julian Barnes, managing director of Biddenden Vineyards, as the new vice-chairman.

Mr Forknall said: "I am delighted to have been elected as chairman. Kevin has done a tremendous job over the last six years and I certainly have some very big boots to fill. I look forward to the challenge."

At the society's annual general meeting, society president Lord Colgrain DL, praised Mr Attwood's devotion to his duties, adding: "Kevin has given himself to the position of chairman."

This year's Kent County Show, which will be held on Friday, July 5 to Sunday, July 7, and will feature the British Dzhigitovka Team and current world champion Sergey Murugov.
