A book festival with more than 60 events is taking over a town for 10 days.

The Faversham Literary Festival will see guest speakers such as political comedian Matt Chorley, Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat and sports star Dame Kelly Holmes visit the medieval market town.

The Times columnist and stand-up Matt Chorley, who has appeared on TV shows such as Have I Got News For You, is sharing excerpts from Planes, Trains and Toilet Doors at the Alexander Centre.

The book takes readers through the highs and lows of British political history and features 50 unlikely places that have played a part in the nation’s politics.

TV writer Steven Moffat, who has worked on shows including Doctor Who and Sherlock, will be joined by playwright Lucy Caldwell and short story writer Adam Marek to discuss the anthology series Collision, which brings together science and storytelling.

The sci-fi trio will be discussing their thoughts on the stories featured in Collision, each with their own unique perspective on the series.

Olympic star Dame Kelly Holmes, who lives in Hildenborough, near Tonbridge, is celebrating 20 years since her double gold medal win.

She will be talking about her sporting career, her charity work and her decision to come out in 2022 as a gay woman, all of which are mentioned in her recent memoir, Unique.

TV chef Rosemary Shrager, who previously ran a cooking school in Tunbridge Wells, is also set to appear at the book festival.

She will be discussing Too Many Cooks, the new murder mystery novel set inside a Cornish boarding school, which will be published later this month.

Other guests that will be speaking at the festival include former Sex Pistols musician Glen Matlock, astronaut Tim Peake, actress Sheila Hancock and Heartstopper writer and creator Alice Oseman - however, these events have already sold out.

Visitors can also attend poetry readings, drawing classes, writing workshops, history talks and walks through the town.
