Canterbury: The Addams Family, starring Samantha Womack, Carrie Hope Fletcher and Les Dennis comes to the Marlowe

They’re creepy and they’re kooky – and coming to a theatre near you.
The new comedy musical of The Addams Family brings its dark humour to the county, with a star-studded cast.
Samantha Womack, fresh from her EastEnders exit after almost a decade as Ronnie Mitchell, takes on the role of Morticia, with comedian and Coronation Street star Les Dennis as Uncle Fester.
Based on the characters created by Charles Addams, the show tells the story of Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, who has grown up and has a shocking secret that only family patriarch Gomez knows – she’s fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family.
Gomez must do something he’s never done before and keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia.
Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
Carrie Hope Fletcher, who comes to the show from stage shows Les Miserables and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, plays Wednesday. She posted a video on YouTube about getting ready for her character.
The musical is by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, whose credits include the book for the show Jersey Boys, with Marshall also being head writer for The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
Music and lyrics come from Andrew Lippa, who wrote the music and lyrics for the Broadway musical, Big Fish.
There should be some sharp moves in the show, as choreography has been done by Alistair David, who directed and choreographed Robbie Williams’s worldwide concert tour Swings Both Ways.
