By The Sea Festival at Dreamland, Margate with Jarvis Cocker, Mystery Jets and Wolf Alice
08:00, 28 September 2016
It kicked off last year with a sell-out weekend, and now Dreamland’s By The Sea Festival is back with another big line-up.
Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, a figurehead for 1990s Britpop and the voice behind hits such as Disco 2000 and Common People, is one of four headliners at the festival, which runs from Friday September 30 to Sunday October 2.
He will be DJing in an exclusive appearance on the Saturday.
Recently-reformed Welsh indie band Super Furry Animals, Camden alt-rock quartet Wolf Alice, Wild Beasts and Bat for Lashes make up the four headliners through the weekend.
Super Furry Animals will perform on the Friday along with Wild Beasts, while Saturday sees Wolf Alice and Bat for Lashes playing.
Wolf Alice released their debut album, My Love Is Cool, last year, and have been nominated for Grammy, Brit, Ivor Novello and Mercury awards, as well as winning NME’s best live band prize for 2016. They also recently played Folkestone’s Leas Cliff Hall.
English singer-songwriter Bat for Lashes, whose real name is Natasha Khan, filmed a music video at Botany Bay in 2012 for her song All Your Gold. She has been nominated for three Mercury Prizes – including this year for the album The Bride – and three times for best British Female Solo Artist at the Brits
Other names on the bill include former Coral guitarist turned solo artist Bill Ryder Jones, indie outfit Mystery Jets, teenage duo Let’s Eat Grandma, Ibibio Sound Machine, Jagwar Ma and Joe Goddard.
The event at the Margate attraction will showcase more than 20 acts across its three days, and also host a series of acoustic sessions in the town’s museum.
A festival spokesman said: “By The Sea at Dreamland Margate is a special event for fans, locals and artists alike. This is the second chapter in what we hope will become a landmark event in the festival calendar.”
Last year’s festival featured Foals and Hot Chip.
