One of the county’s most popular miniature railway open days is returning this weekend and there will be no commuters – or hour-long delays – in sight.

Instead, visitors can let off some steam at the annual Trains and Traction event which will take place in Sturry, near Canterbury, on Sunday, August 10.

Now in its seventh year, the day brings miniature locomotives, traction engines and steam lorries together and rides will be available on the mini locos throughout the day. Traction engines and steam lorries may have been made redundant decades ago but they will return to their glory days as they give rides around the site.

Various stalls, a sweet tombola and children’s roundabout will also be on offer in an event ideal for all ages – not just those who can remember the good old days of steam. There will also be hot and cold refreshments and some parking available on site.

Admission is free. Trains and Traction will take place in the Bretts Quarries off Marlowe Meadows, Sturry from 10am to 4pm.
