Paul Young and his band Los Pacaminos headline T-Music at Dover Castle Inn, Teynham, near Sittingbourne

06:00, 12 August 2015

Back in the day, Paul Young had a massive hit with Wherever I Lay My Hat. These days he has quite a different hat – a cowboy one - and he’ll be bringing it to Kent this weekend along with his seven-piece Americana group.

Los Pacaminos featuring Paul Young will be headlining T-Music at Dover Castle Inn in London Road, Teynham, near Sittingbourne.

Music will start at the Shepherd Neame pub at noon on Saturday, August 15. Joining Paul’s group on the bill will be Hullabaloo, the Chillbillies, the Legendary Rhythm Methodists and Paragraph1.

The day has been organised by Phil Hope and Rebecca Anderson, who took over the pub in October and have just finished a month-long renovation of the 17th century coaching inn.

Rebecca said: “As the pub has a large garden, we decided that it would be a great venue for a music festival. We have some contacts in the music business, so we were able to secure Los Pacaminos, and some fantastic local acts.”

Los Pacaminos have been together for 22 years and it seems that Paul has loved every minute of it

"I wanted to be a member of a band again and be part of that," he said.

"They’re all my friends; I love their company. It isn’t about me so much as the people that are in the band. With the Paul Young stuff, people expect a certain thing and it is all on me. With Los Pacaminos I’m in with a gang of guys; there’s less pressure and I don’t do all the singing."

The 59-year-old who had his first No.1 some 33 years ago added: "My dad loved westerns so I grew up with them; watching Bonanza and the High Chaparral on TV. So that qualifies me to wear a cowboy hat."

There will also be a hog roast at the Dover Castle, a barbecue and face painting. Demelza children’s hospice in nearby Bobbing will benefit from the raffle.

Tickets cost £20 with under-10s going free. For details call the pub on 01795 521214.
