Dover Castle will be one of the first English Heritage sites to reopen

English Heritage has announced it will be reopening Dover Castle to visitors next month.

The charity said it would be opening the iconic landmark along with 45 major sites around the country in early July, including Stonehenge and Hadrian's Wall.

English Heritage members will need to book to visit from Monday, June 15.

In a statement the charity said: "We've been regularly sharing updates on our plans to reopen and we're excited to share with you that we're hoping to reopen 45 more of our sites in July.

"We have introduced limits on visitor numbers to help keep everyone safe, and you won’t be able to visit without your booking confirmation. If you’re a member your ticket will be free, but you still need to book in advance. Tickets will be available to book mid-June.

Also reopening will be the gardens at nearby Walmer Castle. The 8 acres of award-winning gardens include the Broadwalk and the Queen Mother's Garden; the recently opened Glen and the new natural play trail for little ones.

Also reopening will be St Augustine's Abbey, founded in AD 597, in Canterbury. Find out more here.

In Orpington just outside Kent, English Heritage is also reopening the home of Charles Darwin, Down House, which is where he wrote On the Origin of Species'. For details click here.
