This week is the first chance to see artworks from internationally-recognised artists alongside amateur ones, at the Turner Contemporary’s first Open exhibition for a decade.

All works were judged the same for the Margate gallery's Open, with all 4,200 works submitted by more than 1,000 artists who had either lived, worked or studied in the county, judged anonymously.

Of those, they were whittled down to around 450, which have now gone on show using mediums from sculpture, painting and ceramics to film and photography.

The Open spans all the venue’s first floor galleries and includes work by well known artists such as Tracey Emin, Rose Wylie and Margo Selby, alongside up-and-coming artists such as Matilda Sutton, Joshua Atkins and Lisa Wright.

The first Open was held in 2009/10 in the Turner Contemporary Project Space, a former M&S store on Margate High Street.

This year’s event is part of celebrations to mark the 10th anniversary of the gallery and it will run until Sunday, February 20, 2022.

It is free to enter - though donations are welcomed - but you will need to book a timed slot to visit online in advance here.
