International Women's Day events across Kent including POW Thanet, Maidstone Museum and Kent Wildlife Trust

Events are taking place online across the county today as part of International Women's Day.

This year's POW! Thanet festival, which has been streamed over four days, and hosted by BBC Radio’s Gemma Cairney and Margate-based actress Naomi Cooper-Davis this year celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Greenham Common women’s peace camps with an exploration of the history, present and future of protest through performance, art and culture.

There has also been a window display of artworks under the theme in the High Streets in Ramsgate and Margate curated by POW! Youth, featuring art by under 25-year-olds from Thanet. The last events are today. Find out more at powthanet.com

Chatham and Aylesford MP Tracey Crouch and The Spectator’s Isabel Hardman will be discussing the role of gender in accessing nature in a Kent Wildlife Trust event tonight.

The online event led by the trust’s head of advocacy, Julia Hunt, will look at what benefits access to nature bring to women, and what barriers can prevent them from accessing those benefits, is fully booked but will be shared on social media at a later date. Grab a glass of win or a mug of tea and settle down for Maidstone Museum’s International Women’s Day chat on Monday, March 8 from 6.30pm. Collections officer Pernille will be revealing the lives of the groundbreaking women who created, collected or curated the museum’s amazing collections. Tickets at £4 are available here.

The day aims to celebrate women’s achievement; raise awareness against bias and take action for equality.
