On Saturday, January 24, among those taking to the stage will be 20-year-old George Ogilvie. His latest single, Give, was featured on the KFC Christmas advert, titled ‘The Boy Who Learnt To Share’.

“Just give a little love and get some love in return” went George’s lyrics, over the film about young Charlie, who struggled to share anything from the wise men’s gifts in the school Nativity play to the baubles on the tree with his little sister; all overcome by a KFC bucket which he eventually chose to share with his long-suffering family.

George, from Canterbury, will be appearing with Mas Agua at the inaugural Beautiful Town Music Presents... event at the Gulbenkian Cafe, where the monthly night will take place.

Mas Agua loop vocal harmonies, synth effects and electronic percussion and have already appeared as a support act for Scouting for Girls and at Brighton’s Great Escape festival.

Headliners on the night are soulful acoustic duo High Tide, also from Canterbury, who write original folk-pop numbers and have a unique rapport with their audiences.

After forming in 2012, they have gained momentum and a following across Kent and beyond, performing as part of Sport Relief at the Olympic Park to thousands, as well as at festivals Lounge on the Farm, Ashford Create, Broadstairs Folk Week and Faversham Hop Festival.

Beautiful Town Music Presents...will be at the Gulbenkian Cafe on Saturday, January 24, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £6 or £5 to students.

Beautiful Town Music founder Emily Watts is herself a singer-songwriter who will be appearing at the event’s second night on Thursday, February 26, at the Gulbenkian.

She said: “Beautiful Town Music has been promoting new music since 2011. There is a thriving music scene in Kent and I’m always looking for places to promote these fantastic musicians and songwriters.

“This new partnership with Gulbenkian is very exciting as we raise the profile of local musicians and songwriters, bringing them to new audiences on the university campus. The new stage and sound system in the Gulbenkian Cafe is ideal for this venture.”

In addition to the new monthly music night, Beautiful Town Music currently run the monthly Songwriters’ Showcase at the Ballroom in Canterbury and the Canterbury Songwriters Circle.
