Many actors have donned the coat of many colours. From Jason Donovan to Phillip Schofield, and Donny Osmond, Lee Mead and Joe McElderry, it’s been a tale of many wonders for plenty of actors over the years to take centre stage in the family musical production which features Tim Rice’s lyrics and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic music.
Now it’s the turn of Union J band member Jaymi Hensley, who has been cast in the lead role of the Bill Kenwright production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat when it comes to Folkestone.
Jaymi shot to fame in The X Factor in 2012 as a member of Union J, who were also 2013’s BBC British Breakthrough Band of the year.
Union J finished fourth on The X Factor in 2012 and subsequently signed a recording contract with Sony Music’s division RCA Records and released their first studio album in 2013 and went on to have a Top 10 album and a major UK tour.
The 28-year-old said of his starring role - his first major musical role - Jaymi said: "I cannot describe how excited and honoured I am to be stepping into the prestigious coloured coat.

"When I think of iconic roles in musical theatre Joseph was always one that I dreamt of playing growing up. To finally say that I am going to play it is a ‘dream’ come true! I cannot wait to meet all of the loyal Joseph fans and bring you my take on this amazing dream role."
Jaymi will be joined by Trina Hill as the Narrator and Andrew Geater as the Pharaoh in the show, which is directed and choreographed by Gary Lloyd, one of the UK’s most sought-after choreographers and directors.
It is a re-telling of the Biblical story of Joseph, his eleven brothers and, of course, a coat of many colours and features unforgettable and timeless songs including Go, Go, Go Joseph, Any Dream Will Do, and Close Every Door.
Theatre managers at the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone were delighted when the show added the venue to its tour schedule.
Siobhan Thurgood from the Leas Cliff Hall said: "Folkestone deserves this. It has so much going on in the arts and culture, with the harbour and the Creative Quarter. It is nice that we can bring that quality of production to the town."
Seen by an estimated 26 million people and counting, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is at the Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone from Tuesday, March 5 to Saturday, March 9. To book tickets visit atgtickets.com
