Remembrance concerts taking place across Kent in November 2022

With Remembrance Sunday just around the corner, lots of people will be paying tribute to members of the armed forces this weekend.

We've got four memorial concerts taking place in the county so you can pay your respects and enjoy some magnificent music.

All Saints Church, Maidstone

Musicians from the award-winning Maidstone Wind Symphony will be showing their respect with a spectacular Concert of Remembrance. The programme includes a performance of Forgotten Heroes by British composer Nigel Clark, which was written in 2005 to mark 60 years since the end of World War II, and Fields of Honor performed by the wind orchestra. There will also be a number of other musical tributes, such as William Walton’s Spitfire Prelude and Fugue and Edward Elgar’s Nimrod.

Details: 7.30pm on Saturday, November 12 at All Saints Church in Maidstone. Tickets cost £15 for adults, £10 for children and are free for under 5s. Book online here.

Holy Trinity Church, Ramsgate

The Thanet Chamber Choir, a group of around 30 experienced amateur singers led by director of music Greg Tassell, will be performing a programme of remembrance music at their Hear My Prayer concert. There will be works by Henry Purcell, William Byrd, Edward Elgar, Ralph Vaughn Williams and more, all hosted inside this 19th century church. This is an afternoon concert, so perfect for those with young children.

Details: 3.30pm on Saturday, November 12 at Holy Trinity Church in Ramsgate. Tickets cost £10 and can be purchased by calling 07533 200757, from the Vinyl Head Record Shop on West Cliff Road or on the door.

St George’s Church, Gravesend

Gravesham Choral Society will be performing a Music for Remembrance concert which will pay respects to wartime heroes over the centuries. The concert will feature Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, sung in Hebrew; Bob Chilcott’s Nidaros Jazz Mass; and Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, a choral masterpiece completed in 1890. The choir will be joined by soprano Emily Jennings, tenor Jack Holton and treble Dominic Stone, as well as organist Malcolm Riley, pianist Roger Harris, piano, harpist Hannah Runting and percussionist Jonathan Vincent.

St Mary’s Church, Dover

This beautiful Festival of Remembrance is organised by the Dover White Cliffs branch of the Royal British Legion. The festival, held in a charming Grade II listed parish church, will feature music from local singer Barry Goss, the Duke of York’s Corp of Drums and the P&O Ferries Choir. There will also be refreshments available to purchase.

Details: 7pm on Friday, November 11 at St Mary’s Church in Dover. Tickets cost £8 and can be purchased from the Dover Museum and Visitor Information Centre in the Market Square and La Salle Verte on Cannon Street.
