She’s the new, fresh face behind the mic. Laura Nevitt is bringing your favourite tracks, and plenty of chatter, to your afternoons on kmfm.

If you could choose to speak to one of the biggest popstars on the planet who would you pick?

For new kmfm presenter Laura Nevitt, Adele would be her No.1 choice – although she’d take heartthrob Ed Sheeran at a push.

“I just love meeting celebrities, and trying to ask them things that aren’t the norm,” she said, sat next to cut-outs of Ed and Justin Bieber.

“I really love doing interviews. I’d like to have Adele on my show though as I think she’d be really nice and chatty. Then Ed, then Justin. Watch this space!”

Laura came to kmfm from working as a producer in radio and TV after finishing uni. The move into presenting was a natural one for the chatty 25-year-old.

“Presenting is what I’ve always wanted to do, since I was at school, when the teachers were always telling me off for being a chatterbox – I thought ‘if I can get paid for talking, that’s my kind of job.’”

Her desire to move to the Kent coast combined with her love of the music on kmfm was what sealed the deal for her move to the station.

“I love the music; I’m a really big fan of the 1990s,” she said. “kmfm is such a fun station – it’s got a nice young feel to it. And Kent is an area I’ve always wanted to live in, and I love being near the sea.

“I’m getting a real mixture of music with my show, I’ll play the 1990s and the Noughties and on Afternoons between 1pm and 2pm the listeners are in control. Listeners will come up with tunes you haven’t heard for ages. Also you can brighten up someone’s day if you play their song. It’s such a nice thing to be able to do.”

Although radio (alongside talking) is Laura’s main passion, animals are a close second, and if radio had not worked out for her as a career, instead, you might have found her now braving some big cats.

“I love animals – I especially like leopards. I’d be doing something with big cats or in a zoo I think. I also love elephants.”

Currently she has no pets, but she gets to borrow her friend’s puppy at weekends. And there could be the patter of four tiny feet for Laura and fiance Johnathan, a primary school teacher, in the not too distant future, as the pair are preparing to get married next year.

“I love watching Don’t Tell the Bride and Say Yes to the Dress! I’ve got quite a lot of things sorted out, it’s the good times right now. I’d love to get a dog some day.”

And of course for a DJ, the wedding music is important.

Without revealing their first dance song, she said: “When it comes to romantic songs, I’ve always loved Lionel Richie and Ed Sheeran. Thinking Out Loud is such a lovely romantic tune... and that video.”

Listen to Laura on kmfm weekdays from noon and on Saturdays from 11am.
