Battle re-enactment Invasion Kent at Hole Park, Rolvenden with the Napoleonic Association

08:30, 24 May 2016

Gunpowder explosions and the clash of swords will hail an uprising this weekend when Invasion Kent arrives at Hole Park, near Rolvenden.

Three hundred Napoleonic re-enactors will descend on the grounds of the historic mansion in full authentic uniforms and armed to the teeth with replica weapons.

They will be staging realistic clashes and mock skirmishes between French and British regiments as they might have happened had Napoleon invaded Britain via Kent, as he had planned.

Twice-daily battles will see charging cavalry with cannons and muskets firing, promising an authentic feel to the re-enactments for visitors in the arena and the living history camp.

Stalls and activities in keeping with the period will add to the atmosphere and there will be a hog roast and real ale tent over the two days.

The stars of the show at Invasion Kent will be the G of Great Britain. Since its formation in 1975, the association has acted as an umbrella organisation supporting people with a common interest in the Napoleonic period, spanning the French Revolution to the Battle of Waterloo.

Its re-enactors bring the period (1793-1815) to life with detailed living history encampments and dramatic battles.

For a break from the action, visitors can also explore Hole Park’s 15 acres of magnificent gardens.
