A summer challenge designed to discover who's full of hot air and who's able to follow their nose is coming.

This year's six-acre Maize Maze at Penshurst Place, which opens this weekend, has an added level of difficulty for those wanting more than just the challenge of completing it.

Grown in a hot air balloon design this year to signify exploration and discovery, the maize has its annual maze challenge, a mini maze for little ones and a competitive sequential maze.

All routes include a puzzle card to collect clues or stamps.

The main Maize Maze is ideal for groups looking to work together, as well as those who prefer to meander at a more leisurely pace. Taking up to an hour to complete, an Around the World themed game challenges visitors to find checkpoint stamps from different countries along the way to complete their passport game card.

Adventurers taking on the Sequential Maze - which takes around half an hour - must collect a series of co-ordinates in a certain order so as to safely guide their 'hot air balloon’ to land rather than plunging it into the sea.

The Mini Maze takes around 10 minutes and is ideal for small children. Younger visitors will be set the challenge of matching shapes and colours from the history of balloon travel as they make their way around.

If you take a selfie around the maze and post it on social media using #PenshurstMaizeMaze you will be entered into a competition to win a family season ticket for 2020 worth £79. The competition closes on Sunday, September 1.

The maze is open from Saturday, July 13 until Sunday, September 1, between 11am and 6pm, with last entry at 5pm.

Entry is included in the price of a garden ticket, which for a family of two adults and two children costs £30 for the whole day.

Two children up to five can go free with every paying adult and there are discounts for anyone arriving by bicycle or public transport.

Throughout the summer holidays there will also be events on Sundays including short plays, falconry displays and crafts.
