A BBC Folk Awards winner will sing with nightingales in their natural habitat in a Kent woodland during their mating season next month.
Sam Lee, whose vocals will be featured on the new Guy Ritchie film King Arthur: Legend of the Sword which is due out next month, will commune with the birds in the series Singing With Nightingales at remote woodlands near Ashford.
The event at Shadoxhurst coincides with when the birds arrive in England from their wintering grounds in Africa, and runs on selected nights through their song-filled mate-seeking season.
Each evening will include music, storytelling, wildlife lore, and a backwoods feast by a campfire, followed by a silent walk to a location favoured by the birds.
Green Farm in Shadoxhurst is one of four locations in the country Sam has chosen for the singing sessions.
Maryann Richmond-Coggan who runs the farm with husband, Martin, said. "These events will allow us to share our good fortune in having nightingales in our ancient woodland and chime perfectly with a stepping up of our efforts to give more people the chance to experience being outdoors amid nature. This includes running our community wildlife garden, starting new wildlife conservation projects with Kent Wildlife Trust and, from this summer, arranging for more young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to encounter nature on our farm.”
“The song of the nightingale has been captivating human hearts and imaginations since ancient times and our Singing with Nightingales events give guests the chance to experience this same timeless magic in ear-tingling proximity."
Places at the evenings start at £72, with numbers limited to 25 at each.
They will be held from Thursday, April 20 to Saturday, April 22, Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29, Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6 and Friday, May 12.
