Maidstone Mela returns to Mote Park with multicultural acts and food

The carnival sounds of Brazil will be among the culturally diverse and colourful acts converging of a town centre park this weekend.

The Maidstone Mela returns to Mote Park on Sunday, September 19, with 11 different performances through the afternoon, from noon to 6pm.

The entertainment will kick off with Bloco Fogo and their samba beats to get everyone up and dancing.

There will also be a range of food stalls offering flavours from around the world, as well as a prosecco bar.

Cllr Martin Round, chair of the economic, regeneration and leisure committee on Maidstone council said: “I love all these wonderful events which are bringing Maidstone to life, it is great to see them coming back and the Mela is yet another one not to miss.

"Everyone is welcome at this free event in our great Mote Park, come along with family and friends, celebrate the diversity of the borough and have some well-deserved fun.”

Performances include classic Irish dance with a modern twist; Bhangra drumming, rap and grime, Southwest Indian dance and music, traditional sounds of the Malayalam culture and dance performances inspired by the Nepalese culture, as well as a DJ and the Bollywood Brass Band.
