A Kent book festival has revealed some huge household names for this year’s event.

Monty Python star Michael Palin, comedian Lenny Henry and West End singer Michael Ball will all appear at the Tunbridge Wells Literary Festival.

All three headliners will enjoy a night of conversation with audiences at the town’s Assembly Hall Theatre.

The four-day festival will kick off with Michael Ball, who will be discussing his first non-fiction book, Different Aspects.

The musical theatre singer has appeared in stage shows such as the Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables and Hairspray and has won an Olivier Award and two BRIT Awards.

Travel expert and actor Michael Palin will be visiting the town the following night to talk about his new book, Great Uncle Harry: A Tale of War and Empire.

The book is a combination of biography, history, travel and personal memoir and will be the writer’s third non-fiction book.

After starting his career in the comedy group Monty Python alongside John Cleese and Eric Idle, the actor went on to create a number of travel documentaries and present several TV shows.

The third headliner to be announced is Comic Relief co-founder Lenny Henry.

The comedian is one of the UK’s best-known TV stars, having appeared in shows such as the Lenny Henry Show and Tiswas.

During his appearance at the festival, the actor will be sharing stories from his memoir, Rising to the Surface, in which he discusses his path to fame from the 1980s up until today.

The full programme is yet to be announced, but talks and events will be taking place at other venues across the town including the Amelia Scott, The Forum and the Trinity Theatre.

This year’s Tunbridge Wells Literary Festival takes place from Thursday, May 9 to Sunday, May 12.
