The Powell-Cotton Museum in Quex House and Gardens, Birchington, is set to reopen to visitors after almost two years.

The museum returns with free guided tours and a programme of events, beginning with a family-friendly explorer event this half term. At the Bright-Eyed and Bushy-Tailed exhibition, visitors can see the world through the eyes of the animals using special sight equipment.

Bright Eyed and Bushy-Tailed will be open for guests to visit on the next two weekends - February 12-13 and February 19-20 from 11am to 3pm.

Tickets to the Powell-Cotton Museum now cost £2.50 for both adults and children, including entry to the half term exhibition.

The Thanet museum, which has housed collections since its opening in 1896, initially closed due to lockdown in March 2020. However, the museum managers announced in September 2020 that the attraction would remain closed for refurbishment.

The two-year ‘reimagining’ project began in the light of the Black Lives Matter movement, with the aim of decolonising the museum’s collections and artefacts.

The museum now wants to tell a ‘wider story’ with a more inclusive narrative.

While the Powell-Cotton Museum has spent almost two years on refurbishments, there are still aspects of the new venture that remain unfinished. This means visitors can still expect building repairs to continue for some time after the reopening.
