Music fans have been left disappointed after a festival featuring 80s stars was cancelled at the last minute.

Eighties music festival Let's Rock Kent had been due to take place at Mote Park in Maidstone this weekend, with stars from Bananarama and ABC to Nick Kershaw, Go West and Sister Sledge.

The line-up for a retro music festival this weekend read like a who's who of 80s music, and was due to take place on Saturday, September 4, after being postponed from last summer, with many ticketholders rolling their tickets over from last summer.

But the family-friendly festival announced with just days to go to the event on its social media channels that it would not be going ahead, stating only 'logistical issues due to Covid'.

It said in the statement: "We were all so looking forward to Let's Rock Kent on September 4 2021, but unfortunately this event cannot go ahead as planned. Due to logistical issues as a direct result of Covid, we sadly have to postpone Let's Rock Kent until September 3, 2022."

Organisers have offered ticketholders the chance to roll their tickets over again for a second year, or attend another Let's Rock event elsewhere in the country - which are going ahead.

One ticketholder, Jennifer Whitelock, told KentOnline: "I paid for tickets in 2019 for 2020 which as expected was cancelled due to Covid.

"To support gigs I carried my tickets on to this year."

But she said, with days to go to the event, she happened to spot that one of the acts - Peter Cox from Go West - had announced that it had been cancelled. He described it as 'sad news', having performed at Let's Rock Sunderland days before.

She added: "I have had no official word from Lets Rock - no offer for a refund.

"Let's Rock has managed to do other concerts this year around the country so Covid does not really answer why it is not one. Leeds Castle has not cancelled their concert. Very poor from Let's Rock."
