There are still some tickets available to a series of summer open days to a wild animal sanctuary which has been closed to the public since the first national lockdown.

The Big Cat Sanctuary at Smarden closed on March 21, 2020 and has been fundraising and staging online events since.

Its open days this week will be a chance for visitors to see the animals in person again, as well as meet animal conservationist Giles Clarke, who will be attending.

They will also be the first time to see the female rare black Jaguar cub, which was born recently.

Running from Wednesday, July 28 to Sunday, August 1, they are also the charity’s largest fundraiser to help to raise awareness and funds towards the care of endangered big and small cats and to contribute to global conservation projects.

Visitors will be able to learn about the sanctuary's work, as well as to see a variety of stalls, cafe stands, and children's activities.

Keepers will be by the enclosures to answer questions and there will be presentations, interviews, entertainment and a bird of prey display.

Organisers are keeping the event to restricted numbers of people per session. Tickets for the weekend are now sold out but are still available for Wednesday to Friday. Bake Off star Paul Hollywood is the sanctuary's patron.
