Calling all witches and wizards: a free Harry Potter Day is coming to Ashford’s Victoria Park

05:00, 10 October 2024

Potterheads, it’s time to raise your wands and face up to grisly goblins, demonic Death Eaters and wicked Hogwarts professors.

Fans of the magical book series can gather together for Ashford’s Harry Potter Day, which will see crowds of witches and wizards take over the town’s Victoria Park.

The free event is a celebration of the best-selling children’s novels and film series with outdoor activities for sorcerers of all ages.

Hogwarts students will be given a free trail map to help them figure out how to break the spell that has fallen over the park. Visitors will need to find the missing ingredient from Professor Snape’s potion to lift the curse.

There will be clues and items scattered across the grounds and, when you complete the trail, you will be entered into a prize draw to win a Lego Hogwarts castle.

Along with the spell-binding trail, there will also be golden snitches to find and a golden egg that will reveal a riddle to be solved every hour.

If you solve the riddle, you can head to Harper’s Cafe and be rewarded with a slice of special ‘snitch cake’.

The first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, was published in 1997 and has since become one of the top five best-selling books of all time.

The series continued until 2007 when the seventh novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was released.

The books were also turned into a film series, which ran from 2001 to 2011, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, and has spawned a London film set tour and theme parks in four locations across the world.

Harry Potter Day will take place at Victoria Park in Ashford on Sunday, October 20 from 10am to 3pm.
