Maidstone Proms in the Park 2016 date announced

00:01, 10 April 2016

Maidstone's popular annual Proms in the Park will celebrate patriotic-style, marking the Queen's 90th birthday.

Celebrate all things British for free on Saturday, May 28 when the proms return to the town's Whatman Park.

Maidstone Wind Symphony will perform a tribute to Her Majesty the Queen for her birthday, and the event will be held earlier to allow for the seasonal weather, starting at 3pm.

The free entertainment will include classical and big band works by Maidstone Wind Symphony, performances by the Hazlitt Youth Theatre, and community events and refreshments.

Organised between Maidstone council and the Hazlitt Theatre, the earlier finish is designed to cater for families, but it means there will be no fireworks display.

Maidstone Wind Symphony music director, Jonathan Crowhurst, said: “Following the success of last year’s performance, we hope to be able to offer a magnificent show for visitors to Whatman Park this May.

"In celebration of the 90 birthday of Her Majesty the Queen, we can’t wait to perform music from each decade of her life, alongside traditional Proms numbers.”
