‘80s pop star Paul Young is looking back on 40 years in the music business with a brand new tour.
The blue-eyed soul singer will be hitting the road with his Behind the Lens tour in September to coincide with the release of his autobiography, Take a Piece of Me with You.
“It’s been fun putting it all together,” says Paul. “I’ve been asked a few times to write an autobiography, but I didn’t really want to do that. My career has been built on music, and so I wanted to do a musical memoir, where I spoke about how I got into music in the first place and what came next.”
The tour will not only celebrate the Come Back and Stay singer’s new book but will also mark 40 years since the release of his debut solo album No Parlez.
After a short-lived career in bands such as Q-Tips and the Kool Kats, Paul Young reached the top of the charts upon the album’s release in 1983.
No Parlez spawned the No. 1 single Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home) and made the musician a household name.
Over the years, the teen heartthrob released a further nine studio albums, performed at Live Aid in 1985 and formed the Tex-Mex band Los Pacaminos.
His new tour will see the singer perform the biggest hits from his decade-spanning career and share some of the anecdotes from his autobiography with fans.
“I’m looking forward to the record, the book and the tour,” says the 67-year-old. “I’ll be telling stories when I’m on the road, as well as singing a few of the classic hits. I can’t wait to get started.”
Paul Young will be at the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone on Thursday, September 14.
He will also be at the Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday, October 23 and the King’s Hall in Herne Bay on Sunday, October 29.
