World-famous aerobatic team the Red Arrows will be flying above Kent on Saturday, June 8.

The display has been arranged after organisers of the Folkestone Airshow were forced to scrap the event for financial reasons.

Shepway council’s David Monk said: “We wanted to give the people of Folkestone and visitors something to see. The town might not have an airshow but it will now have everyone’s favourite aerobatic display team. This will be a terrific boost for the town.”

A cliff-top view of the display that starts at 2.30pm can be best enjoyed at a free, family event in Capel-le-Ferne.

Alongside the normal attractions at the National Memorial to the Few, which is on the coast road just outside Folkestone, visitors can enjoy farmers’ market stalls, face painting and make, paint and take home an Airfix Hurricane model.

On hand to sign specially-designed postcards will be Hurricane pilot and Battle of Britain veteran, Wing Commander Bob Foster. Gates open at 10am. Call 01303 249292.
