The Osmonds: A New Musical, created by Jay Osmond, is coming to the Churchill Theatre in Bromley

You loved them for a reason - and now you can fall head over heels again for The Osmonds as a musical all about their life comes to the Churchill Theatre.
The Osmonds: A New Musical will be making Bromley audiences swoon from Tuesday, April 26 to Saturday, April 30.
The show follows the five famous brothers, from the moment they were thrust into the spotlight as children through their decade-spanning careers as global popstars.
The Osmonds’ remarkable life has been recreated for the stage by none other than Jay Osmond himself.
“I wrote it from the heart,” says Jay, who was one of the original members of the Osmond Brothers in the 1960s, before Donny joined and they renamed themselves The Osmonds. “It was hard; I had to play my drums a lot to get my emotions out, but it all boiled down to this: why did we do what we did? It was because we wanted to help people, to use those talents to do some good in the world. I wanted to put that purpose into the show.
“I think you can do almost anything in life if you have a purpose.”
The show highlights some of the band’s most influential moments, from the ‘Osmondmania’ of the 1970s to the nationwide popularity of the Donny and Marie Show.
“The story starts at the 50th anniversary and then goes way back,” explains the drummer. “Each of us has a different perspective, so this is very much my perspective; hard times, fun times, why we did what we did and how we did it as a family.”
The show will include some of the boyband’s biggest singles, such as Love Me For a Reason, Crazy Horses and Puppy Love.
“Our music really is multi-generational,” says Jay, who still performs with his brother Merrill. “To see people laugh, cry and sing along - I knew then that it would work.”
Although the brothers grew up in Utah, the decision to debut the musical in the UK was a deliberate one.
“This is where our family was so welcomed,” recalls Jay. “Osmondmania kind of happened everywhere, but there was something about the UK. Our family was so accepted and so loved here. We have been to almost every place on the tour list at some point, and they are places that hold so many memories. We’ll go to Canada and America too, sure, but it feels right to begin here.”
The Osmonds: A New Musical is at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley, from Tuesday, April 26 to Saturday, April 30. Book online here.
The show will also visit the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury from Tuesday, May 17 to Saturday, May 21 and the Orchard Theatre in Dartford from Tuesday, May 15 to Saturday, May 19.
