Thousands of music lovers will gather in Deal this weekend for a rousing musical tribute to the 11 Royal Marines killed in the town by an IRA bomb.

The annual event marks the 27th anniversary of the Royal Marines School of Music bombing on September 22, 1989.

The concert by the Band of HM Royal Marines always attracts big crowds to pay their respects, many getting to Walmer Green early in the morning to ensure a good place.

This year also honours the musicians and buglers of the Royal Marines who died 100 years ago at the Battle of Jutland during the First World War.

The concert at the Deal Memorial Bandstand on Sunday, July 10, includes music from the Barber of Seville by Rossini and the classic film Fantasia. There will also be a finale featuring Rule Britannia, Land Of Hope And Glory, the National Anthem and A Life On The Ocean Wave.

Admission is free.

A programme, produced by the East Kent Mercury, will be available on the day for £2.
