Iconic fighter planes from the Second World War will open a classical music concert at Leeds Castle next month.

A Spitfire and a Hurricane will fly over the Open Air Classic Concert, which takes place on Saturday, July 12 from 5.30pm.

Following the flyover an evening of classical music will take place, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and The Military Wives Choir both scheduled to perform.

Duncan Mason, who will pilot either the Spitfire or the Hurricane, said: “We are delighted to be asked to open the Leeds Castle Classical Concert.

“We must not forget that the Royal Air Force is still operating across the globe in hostile environments and that its personnel are still putting their lives on the line to protect Britain’s interests.”

The show will be split in two with a flyover by aircraft from the Hangar 11 Collection, which boasts 11 airworthy planes from the Second World War, set to open the second-half.

Chief pilot Peter Teichman said: “I very much look forward to flying at the classical concert- what a beautiful backdrop to display beautiful aircraft.”

Picnic style tickets for the concert are £39, which seats priced at £49.
