Events in Kent this weekend from a doggy funday to steam engines and classic cars

From doggy fun days to steam trains and classic cars to glorious gardens, there's lots going on across the county this weekend.

We've found seven super events to try.

Doggy Fete Funday

Lockmeadow Entertainment Complex in Maidstone will hold a Doggy Fete for the first time on Sunday, July 18. There will be fun activities, charities and a doggy ice cream van. The event with Maidstone Market runs from 11am to 3pm with training demonstrations every 15 minutes.

Summer Steam Up

The Spa Valley Railway in Tunbridge Wells is hosting an actioned packed steam-hauled weekend of Saturday, July 17 and Sunday, July 18. Visitors can ride behind the Bulleid Pacific 34053 Sir Keith Park and other visiting steam locomotives, including the LBSCR Terrier 2678 Knowle. Book in advance at spavalleyrailway.co.uk

Kent All Ford Show, Aylesford

If you love Ford cars, you’ll be in your element on Sunday, July 18 at Aylesford Priory.

The Kent All Ford Show is a chance for car enthusiasts to meet and display their vehicles. There will be all types of Fords from all eras on show at the event at the Friars, which runs from 10am to 4pm on the day.

Refreshments will be available and passes for last year’s event will be valid for this year.

Canterbury Cathedral Girls' Choir

The Cathedral’s Girls’ Choir will perform a vibrant mixture of sacred and secular music in their first concert since lockdown on Saturday, July 17 at 7.30pm.

Tickets need to be pre-booked and cost £11.70 here. The event will follow Covid regulations and when booking, ensure that all those in your party are able to sit together.

Murder Town Trail

Take a town tour with a twist on Friday, July 16 with the Historical Murder Town Trail which starts at the East Cliff at 7pm and lasts until 8.15pm. Find out about Ramsgate’s rotten history in bygone times as murder mystery and mayhem abound. Spaces need to pre-book as numbers are limited by calling 07784 471110.

National Gardens Scheme

There will be five gardens in the county opening this weekend for the scheme. At Ulcombe, the two-acre garden at Knowle Hill Farm is open on Saturday, July 17 and Sunday, July 18 between 2pm and 5pm, with homemade teas and a plant sale. Entry £6 for adults, to be pre-booked.

Outdoor Theatre

Two dates of Changeling Theatre’s summer tour of A Midsummer Night’s Dream this week are sold out, but you can catch it at Swarling Manor at Petham, Canterbury on Tuesday, July 20. Think gothic fantasy meets RuPaul‘s Drag Race - it promises to be a funny, fantastical feast for the senses for all ages. Tickets must be pre-booked, though seating is unreserved, at changeling-theatre.com
