A TV drama bringing the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? 'coughing' scandal to life comes to the small screen on Easter Monday.
The three-part drama Quiz to be screened on ITV tells the inside story of the infamous ‘Coughing Major’ controversy, which saw Major Charles Ingram accused of cheating his way to the jackpot on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
The show, which will be shown from tomorrow at 9pm through to Wednesday, April, 15, was adapted from the West End hit stage show by James Graham, which is due to launch a UK and Ireland tour this autumn, debuting at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley.
The show is scheduled to run from Friday, August 28 until Saturday, September 5, though the theatre is, like all others, closed at the moment, with performances suspended until Sunday, May 31, with shows beyond that date also potentially suspended.
In September 2001, the nation was gripped by a scandal that remains, to this day, a mystery.
Charles Ingram, aka the Coughing Major, an his accomplices duped the world's richest and most popular TV quiz show Who Wants to be a Millionaire, out of £1,000.000. Or did they..? And if they did cheat, how they do it?
Uncovering new evidence and using bespoke technology, Quiz asks the audience to decide the ultimate - guilty or not guilty.
It was written by Olivier Award winning writer James Graham who also wrote Ink and Labour of Love.
The show is a fictional imagination based on the events which took place in 2001 but is not connected to the makers of the programme or the individuals portrayed.
Quiz is on 9pm on ITV tomorrow.
As the Churchill Theatre is currently closed, the box office is also shut.
National Theatre Live is being broadcast for free. Click here for the full story.
