Don't let the lack of blue skies dampen your weekend spirits. There's lots going on across the county, both inside and out.

We look at six things you could be trying this weekend.

Turner Contemporary, Margate

The Margate gallery reopened yesterday, during its 10th anniversary year with exhibitions by Ellen Harvey and JMW Turner, alongside Ashes by Steve McQueen. The programme also includes Place, Space and Who by Barbara Walker; and April is the Cruellest Month by Michael Rakowitz. Entry is free but you'll need to pre-book your visit here.

Pier to Pier Cycle Trail

Active Ramsgate has launched a new guide for cyclists to travel from Ramsgate to Deal and back, stopping off at some of the area’s best examples of architecture, history and nature along the way.

The Pier to Pier Cycle Trail, which starts at Ramsgate Pier and finishes at Deal Pier, is 20km, with the majority on cycle-friendly paths.

There’s a free downloadable map with points of interest along the way, including a brief history of Ramsgate Pier, an introduction to medieval Sandwich as the half-way point, and an overview of Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve and Deal Pier. The route also takes you past three golf courses, including Royal St George’s at Sandwich where the Open will take place in July. In addition, there are some fabulous suggestions of eateries to visit along the way. To download it, go to ramsgatetown.org

Canvas at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet, Ashford

Dance company Jasmin Vardimon, is presenting a new free immersive performance, Canvas, at the Ashford Designer Outlet until Sunday, May 23. Canvas will take place within two repurposed retail units, which have been transformed into a theatrical set where the audience will be invited into a multi-sensory world, performed by the 14 JV2 dancers. Performances will take place at 6pm with additional afternoon performances on Friday and Saturday 22nd May, and the final performance at lunchtime on Sunday. Wedding Experience, Detling, near Maidstone

With weddings returning, so are wedding events. To attend the Kent Wedding Experience at Detling, near Maidstone, on Saturday, May 22 and Sunday, May 23 you’ll need to pre-book at wedding-experience.co.uk

Spa Valley Railway, Tunbridge Wells

The vintage railway in Tunbridge Wells will have a special guest on its reopening weekend on Saturday, May 22 and Sunday, May 23, when there will be a chance to ride on the Sir Keith Park. Passengers can enjoy a five-course dinner on board the High Weald Belle Dining Train pulled by the steam locomotive named after a war hero.

You can dine in style for £110 for a table of two or £220 for a table of four on the Saturday.

All carriages are Covid secure and are arranged to allow social distancing to be maintained.

There is also a gin and steam event on the Saturday afternoon with a selection of three different gins from Anno Distillery in Marden for £30 each. Book for any of the events here.

Godinton House Gardens, near Ashford

The stately home’s gardens at Great Chart, near Ashford, have been open for some weeks, and the house follows suit on Friday, June 4, when it will open on Fridays and Saturdays through to October.

In the meantime, there is a topiary workshop on Saturday, May 22, between 9.30am and 1pm, when you can learn about topiary training, pruning, and plant manipulation. You can pre-book for £40, including coffee. The gardens are open Tuesdays to Sundays and bank holidays. Book to visit here.
