Strawberry fair at Brogdale in Faversham
06:06, 12 June 2019
There’s some fruity goodness on offer this weekend when Brogdale in Faversham holds its annual summer Strawberry Fair.
Set your tastebuds tingling with rare and heritage strawberries - best enjoyed with a healthy dollop of cream.
The event on Sunday, June 16 - which also happens to be Father’s Day - celebrates the first fruit of the season, with a traditional country fair.
Visitors can buy varieties grown on the site at Brogdale Road Faversham, including the Brogdale Delicious, Maria de Bois and super sweet Gariette strawberries.
Or you could be tempted by the Snow White strawberry, a white fleshed red pip strawberry that stands out from the crowd.
Great British Bake Off star Jane Beedle will be delighting the crowds with strawberry-themed treats including fruit kebabs as well as hosting a Kids Cookery Competition.
What could be more delightful on a summer afternoon than a cream tea in the Strawberry Tea Room, served with a slice of homemade cake, fresh scones or fresh strawberries and cream. Sip strawberry Pimm’s on the meadow with your picnic and your choice of fresh strawberries while watching a traditional Punch & Judy show.
Or you could join in some traditional fair games like a sack race and tug of war. Little ones can get stuck into strawberry crafts and discover where all the magical strawberry fairies have hidden their fairy doors on the farm.
Take a guided walking or tractor trailer around the 159 acres of orchards, or relax and take an enchanting ride through the orchards on the Faversham miniature railway.
There will also be rural talks and demonstrations include Spike the hedgehog rescuer talking about some prickly friends and Brogdale experts will be sharing their knowledge on wildflowers of Kent, the humble bumble bee and plants.
