Strictly legend Anton Du Beke is stepping out on an intimate solo tour across the country.
Join the king of ballroom for his glittering new show, An Audience with Anton Du Beke, at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley, on Sunday, May 22.
The show, which sees the Strictly Come Dancing star talking about his career as a dancer, author, singer and household name, gives Anton a chance to interact with his fans on a much more personal level.
“You can ask me any question you like and I’m going to tell you about my career and my life, but we’re going to do it with dance and we’re going to do it with song,” says the 55-year-old performer. “It’s going to be a great night.”
Anton first fell in love with dance in his childhood home of Sevenoaks, where he attended his local dance school. He then went on to compete professionally in dance competitions all over the world, before landing a spot on Strictly.
He joined the team of Strictly pros when the show began in 2004 and has been a staple of our Saturday nights ever since, either on the dance floor or the judge’s panel.
“I have so many wonderful Strictly memories, of which I shall talk about on the Audience with Anton Du Beke,” says the ballroom dancer. “I have had many classic moments with my wonderful partners.
“Whether it’s falling down with Ruth Langsford in the paso doble, whether it’s flying Ann Widdicombe in or throwing her across the floor and skidding, or dancing with Katie making the final.”
Despite being a solo show, Anton won’t be entirely on his own. He will be joined on stage by a powerhouse band, dance partner and guest vocalist Lance Ellington.
However, the audience will be the ones in the driving seat, as there is no script so Anton is relying on the fan’s questions to steer the show.
“It won’t be scripted, it will be completely improvised,” explains Anton. “I’m going to go along with what people speak to me about. The bits between the numbers will be improvised.”
Of course, there are some parts of the show that won’t be left up to chance.
“Obviously I'm not improvising the song, it’s not a jazz club. I’m not going to improvise the dance numbers. (My partner) will be delighted if I suddenly don’t pick her up when she is expecting me to!”
An Audience with Anton Du Beke is at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley, on Sunday, May 22. Book online here or call 03433 100020.
