Rock band The Darkness are set to headline next summer's Ramblin' Man Fair in Kent.

The band, who burst onto the scene 18 years ago with their single I Believe In a Thing Called Love, will headline the main stage on the Friday night of the festival in Mote Park, Maidstone, which runs from Friday, July 19 to Sunday, July 21.

They join headliners Foreigner, already announced by organisers Spirit of Rock, who will headline the main stage on the Saturday.

The Darkness lead singer Justin Hawkins said: "I do love to ramble. Years ago, my grandfather bought me a set of hiking boots for Christmas, in a direct refusal to spend money on the plastic Evel Knievel toy I had begged him for.

"So off I went...It took a long time to get there on account of my having grown up in the flat lands of East Anglia. Two of my other great uncles, Fred and Cyril, lived in Maidstone so I walked there. That makes Ramblin' Man somewhat of a homecoming, and we, The Darkness, cannot wait to headline this magnificent festival."

The band's line-up is Justin, his brother Dan Hawkins on guitar, Frankie Poullain on bass and Rufus Tiger Taylor on drums.

For 2019 - its fifth year - the festival has moved back to its traditional slot towards the end of July.

Also announced today is the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, fresh from releasing their new album Barefoot in the Head, who will also headline the main stage.

The line-up so far also includes American blues singer Beth Hart, who will headline the blues stage, and prog rock acts Anathema, Swedish group Pain of Salvation and Polish prog giants Riverside.

The rock festival is known for its UK exclusive performances and attracts acts from around the world.

It will be held in the 450-acre park in Maidstone, with camping on offer for fans wanting to stay the whole weekend.
