Author and historian Christopher Lloyd is bringing his bestselling children’s book Absolutely Everything! A History of Earth, Dinosaurs, Rulers, Robot and Other Things Too Numerous to Mention to a Kent castle.
The book is the basis of a new play for children from five up to adults of 105, a time-travelling interactive adventure that transports the audience, using sounds, from the Big Bang to present day.
Using puppetry, projection and interacting with the audience, the play is an introduction to people and prehistoric creatures of the past but also looks at what is happening to our planet now.
The show aims to build on Christopher’s mission to refresh the traditional ways of teaching history and science at schools by re-connecting subjects that the curriculum has separated into pieces and relating them to the world.
The play also builds on Dame Evelyn Glennie’s passion about connecting to each other through listening. She will be making a special guest appearance when the show is premiered at Allington Castle in Maidstone on Thursday, July 18.
The show will also be followed by a question and answer session with the pair.
Directed by Aileen Gonsalves, a Royal Shakespeare Company director, actress and producer, the book has been adapted for stage by emerging playwright Bethany Sharp, who is also the play’s associate producer.
Christopher Lloyd said: “Today knowledge is chopped up into separate subjects. Much better is to connect knowledge together and challenge students to learn for themselves becoming experts wherever their curiosity leads them. Then they can become what nature truly intended – their own self-learning systems.”
The castle is not usually open to the public. To book tickets for Absolutely Everything! A History of Earth, Dinosaurs, Rulers, Robot and Other Things Too Numerous to Mention is at Allington Castle, Maidstone from Thursday, July 18 to Friday, July 21 go to absolutelyeverything.show
