In a picturesque corner of Kent, there’s a garden with a secret.
Great Maytham Hall at Rolvenden is where author Frances Hodgson Burnett was inspired to write her book, The Secret Garden, which has been turned into a Hollywood blockbuster - and is available to stream this week.
Normally the grand house with its acres of picturesque gardens, breathtaking views and adjoining woodland, as a private residence, can only be glimpsed on selected weekends for the National Garden Scheme.
Those dates may be on hold this year, but you can still visit from the comfort of your own home, with a video on the garden’s page on the NGS website here.
You can see the film adaptation of the story Frances Hodgson Burnett was inspired to write, starring Colin Firth and Julie Walters, on Amazon Prime from this week.
The story of a young orphan who moves to stay with her uncle on his country mansion, where she discovers a magical walled garden, has been released after being delayed in cinemas last year.
