Groove, jazz and film fans are going to be equally thrilled by the prospect of virtuoso bassist Kyle Eastwood, son of Clint. Feast on a slice of A-list glamour when the American musician and composer performs at Maidstone’s Pizza Express this weekend.

The film star and director’s eldest son Kyle grew up surrounded by music. His father had been attending the Monterey Jazz Festival since it began in 1958 and when his children were born it became a yearly family outing.

Being the son of one of the most famous men in the world gave Kyle immediate access backstage to meet huge jazz stars who were performing at that time such as Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan, and it wasn’t long before a career as a jazz musician beckoned.

He has since contributed music to eight of his father’s films, including Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby and Gran Torino.

Kyle admits he is always going to be “the son of Clint” but he is also a universally-respected musician and band leader in his own right, both as a virtuoso bassist on electric and upright and as an acclaimed composer.

Kyle will be playing on Saturday, April 25 at 8.30pm. Tickets cost £24.

Also in Maidstone, music fans are counting down to the start of one of the county’s most anticipated music festivals.

Maidstone Fringe Festival will bring Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac to the town, as well as other big names in dance including Kissy Sellout and Shadow Child, as well as bands Nine Below Zero and Van Susans and Kent local heroes including Migden and Gibson, Get Inuit and Native People.

The five-day festival begins on Thursday, April 30 with Paul Dunton hosting a night at Pizza Express, as well as music at venues the Druids Arms, Frederic Bistro, Earls and Rafters.
