A group of actors are preparing to bare all for a good cause in this production of musical favourite Calendar Girls.
This local production, which takes place at the Sinden Theatre in Tenterden, is based on the award-winning musical by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth.
Inspired by a true story, the show follows a group of ordinary women from a small Women’s Institute in Yorkshire who, after the death of one of their husbands, decide to do something drastic and make a real difference.
The women shake off all preconceptions of what it means to be in a women’s institute and pose for a nude calendar to raise more than £500,000 for charity, despite their own reservations.
The heart-warming story first gained widespread attention when it was turned into a film in 2003, starring a number of renowned British actors such as Helen Mirren, Julie Walters and Celia Imrie.
The film was adapted into a West End musical, initially titled The Girls, by Take That singer Gary Barlow and screenwriter Tim Firth.
The show made its London debut in 2017 at the Phoenix Theatre, followed by a UK tour which took the show to theatres across the country until 2019.
The heart-warming story of these remarkable women is now being retold by the talented members of the Tenterden Operatic and Dramatic Society.
Calendar Girls is at the Sinden Theatre, Tenterden, from Wednesday, June 1 to Saturday, June 4. Book tickets online here.
