Stacey Dooley Investigates: Spycam Sex Criminals

Pornography is illegal in South Korea, driving the creation of such images underground. As a result, a dark craze known as 'molka' has arisen, which uses secretly collected films and photographs of women at their most vulnerable during intimate moments. In her latest investigative report, Dooley visits the country to learn more about this cruel and humiliating crime; she discovers that developments in technology mean that cameras can be as small as pinheads, allowing them to be easily hidden in changing rooms and toilet cubicles. Dooley meets both victims and perpetrators, and also learns about one young woman who took her own life shortly before her wedding due to a colleague's video of her taking a shower.

Amazon Prime, from Friday, April 3

Simon Stalenhag's narrative art book (not to be confused with comic-books or graphic novels, this is a tome full of large-scale astonishing pictures but little text; the images tell the story as much as the words) has already inspired a popular role-playing game and now it's the basis for this offbeat sci-fi adventure drama. The book has been compared to 1980s-set films and TV shows such as ET, Stranger Things and The Goonies, so fortysomethings can expect a nostalgia-fest of sorts. The story takes place in a town built above 'the loop', a machine capable of unlocking and exploring the mysteries of the universe, in the process opening up whole new worlds beyond the realms of our imagination. Rebecca Hall, Jonathan Pryce and Tyler Barnhardt head the cast.

Money Heist

Netflix, from Friday April 3

The Spanish crime series - also known as Le Casa de Papel - is back for its fourth run. It picks up where its predecessor left off, with the Professor believing that his girlfriend and collaborator Lisbon has been executed. Nairobi's life is also hanging in the balance and Rio and Tokyo have made the audacious decision to blow up an army tank. Few storyline details have been released so far, but what we do know is that the gang is about to face the toughest period of its existence, while an enemy within its ranks is going to put their latest job in serious jeopardy. Raquel is certainly one to keep a close eye on as the plot develops.

Coffee & Kareem

Netflix, from Friday April 3

We've seen plenty of buddy-cop movies over the years, but this knockabout comedy is a little different as the detectives at its heart are Detroit detective James Coffee and his prospective stepson, 11-year-old Kareem. The youngster is horrified when he discovers his single mother Vanessa is dating a seemingly hapless police officer, so he tries to break them up. Kareem devises the idea of hiring criminals to scare Coffee off, but it backfires, putting the family in grave danger. To prevent a tragedy, Coffee and Kareem are reluctantly forced to team up to bring the villains to justice. Ed Helms, Taraji P Henson, Betty Gilpin and the delightfully named Terrence Little Gardenhigh head the cast.

Honey Boy

Film star Otis (Lucas Hedges) crashes his car under the influence of alcohol and exchanges harsh words with police attending the scene. He avoids a prison sentence by agreeing to undergo a prolonged stint in rehab under the care of counsellor Dr Moreno. She recognises the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and encourages Otis to seek answers in his past. Initially reluctant, he eventually reminisces about formative years as a child star and the fractious relationship with father James.

The old man, a former rodeo clown, verbally and physically abuses his boy when he isn’t chaperoning the lad to and from film sets. By confronting the demons of those early years, Otis edges towards long-overdue healing.

Honey Boy is a mesmerising coming-of-age story, which marks an impressive narrative feature debut of music video director Alma Har’el.

From the opening frames, we’re heavily invested in Otis’s recovery and survival, painfully aware of the obstacles that lie ahead from the tabloid headlines of LaBeouf’s turbulent past.

Gung-ho Marine Ray Garrison (Vin Diesel) celebrates the successful extraction of a hostage in Mombasa by spending quality time on the Amalfi coast with his wife Gina Marital bliss is shattered when terrorist Martin Axe (Toby Kebbell) holds the couple hostage to extract vital intelligence from Ray on the Kenya mission, then executes both prisoners.

The military donates Ray's body to Dr Emil Harting (Guy Pearce), a pioneering scientist at Rising Spirit Technologies.

He uses cutting-edge nanotechnology to augment the Marine's strength, agility, speed and healing capabilities with millions of microscopic machines coursing through the bloodstream.

Ray is reborn as Bloodshot, a relentless assassin programmed to undertake secret missions.

Rush-released into the home in response to Covid-19, Bloodshot is a dull, plodding, action-packed thriller based on the Valiant Comics character of the same name. Screenwriters Jeff Wadlow and Eric Heisserer struggle to articulate the emotional arc of the lead character as he uncovers a grand conspiracy connected to the death of his beloved wife.

Jim Carrey received a Golden Globe nomination for his eye-catching performance in Michel Gondry's quirky comedy drama about a children's TV presenter and his outlandish alter ego.

Jeff Piccirillo (Carrey) slowly comes to terms with the devastating news that his top-rated show, Mr Pickles' Puppet Time, is being taken off the air. Unable to talk to his young fans through his usual medium, Jeff attempts to find a new route to connect with viewers but his plan risks a backlash.

Aided and abetted by his beloved puppets, Jeff glimpses light at the end of the tunnel and unlocks inner strength he never knew he possessed.

Motherless Brooklyn

Frank Minna (Bruce Willis) runs a small-scale detective agency in 1957 New York City, employing four young men he rescued from the horrors of an orphanage riddled with abuse.

Lionel Essrog (Edward Norton), who has Tourette's and a photographic memory, is Frank's prized protege working cases alongside Danny Frantl, Gilbert Coney and Tony Vermonte. During one investigation into the dealings of businessman William Lieberman, Frank is shot dead. His widow Julia has no interest in the business so Tony is placed in charge of the agency.

Lionel is determined to unmask his mentor's killer. Donning Frank's trademark coat and hat, he uncovers a chain of evidence that links African-American jazz bar worker Laura Rose, influential city council member Moses Randolph (Alec Baldwin) and his emotionally unstable brother Paul (Willem Dafoe).

Based on Jonathan Lethem's landmark 1999 novel, Motherless Brooklyn is a slow-burning crime thriller and a passion project for writer, director and star Norton who took 20 years to realise his vision on the big screen.

Lucy In The Sky

Nasa astronaut Lucy Cola (Natalie Portman) returns to Earth and experiences a crushing sense of disappointment with her mild-mannered husband Drew (Dan Stevens) and teenage daughter Blue Iris.

She is determined to earn her spot on the next space mission and throws herself into training under programme director Frank Paxton).

Failure is not an option for Lucy, who has been inured to pain and self-doubt by her fragrant and potty-mouthed grandmother. But her mental state fractures and she seeks comfort in the arms of fellow astronaut Mark Goodwin but when she learns that Mark has also taken a fancy to younger rival Erin Eccles, jealousy takes a vice-like grip.

Lucy In The Sky is a slow-burning drama loosely based on the true story of Nasa astronaut Lisa Nowak.
