Three world-class Celtic musicians and members of the Transatlantic Sessions are returning to Kent after a spellbinding concert here last year.

Michael McGoldrick, John McCusker and John Doyle will share the stage at Canterbury’s Gulbenkian Theatre in what is a rare opportunity for music fans.

Both McGoldrick and McCusker have toured for the past year with former Dire Straits lead man Mark Knopfler.

A master of flutes, whistles and pipes, McGoldrick is a founding member of Flook, Lunasa and is a current member of Capercaillie.

BBC Radio 2 Folk Musician of the Year in 2006, he is regarded as one of the greatest flute players of all time and has toured with Bob Dylan and collaborated with the likes of Jim Kerr and Youssou N’Dour.

John McCusker’s fiddle playing has earned him a reputation as one of the most gifted and versatile musicians of any genre.

He joined the Battlefield Band at 17, spending 11 years with the legendary folk outfit, and has worked with artists including Paulo Nutini, Jools Holland and Paul Weller.

John Doyle’s gifts as guitarist, songwriter and vocalist have played their role in the ongoing renaissance of Irish traditional music.

Now living in America, he was the recent musical director for Joan Baez and toured with her for two years. One half of the duo Liz Carroll and John Doyle, he is also a founding member of the Irish group Solas.
