Another spring floral display is brightening up the county this month.

The Tulip Celebrations flower display at Hever Castle is about to burst into full bloom, with more than 40,000 tulips planted all over the estate.

The event, which takes place at the Edenbridge castle, will be open to visitors from Monday, April 17 to Sunday, April 23. You can book online here.

This year, the Hever Castle gardeners have decided on an arithmetic theme, with the tulip border being planted in the shape of numbers and maths symbols.

The border can be found next to the Hever Festival Theatre, while the thousands of bulbs dotted around the rest of the castle grounds can be seen in the Italian garden, along the Pergola walk and near the double moat.

During the Tulip Celebrations, florist Emma Fuller-Wilke will be hosting free flower arranging demonstrations and answering any questions about flower displays and foliage.

There will also be daily tulip tours from the gardening team, with advice on how to look after your own tulips at home.

“We have loved putting together our planting plans for Tulip Celebrations 2023 and have taken great inspiration from this wonderful flower which symbolises rebirth and charity,” says Head Gardener Neil Miller.

“My fantastic colleague Janice has come up with an extraordinary design for the long tulip border by Festival Theatre and we think she’s found the answer for the perfect tulip equation with her use of numbers and mathematical symbols - it’s going to be quite beautiful!”

The colour choices for this year’s display are symbolic, and each shade of tulip represents something different.

For example, the pink tulips represent confidence and happiness, the yellow tulips are used to boost moods, the white tulips symbolise forgiveness and the purple tulips are associated with royalty.

Tours of the tulips will take place at 11.30am and 2pm until Friday, April 21 and at 11.30am only on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23.
